چکیده

Breaking the scaling relationship of water oxidation is gateway to obtain an ultrahigh current density at a low potential for greatly improving electrolysis efficiency in industrial hydrogen production. Herein, we demonstrate novel heterointerface engineered NiFe(OH)x/Ni3S2 electrocatalyst successfully circumvent oxygen evolution reaction (OER), which significantly decreases difference Gibbs free energy HOO* and HO*(}ΔGhoo*–ΔGho*) from 3.20 2.38 eV. To achieve 2000 mA cm−2, requires small overpotential 310 mV with ultralow Tafel slope 20.8 dec−1. It can also steadily operate under 1000 cm−2 over 100 h insignificant activity loss, thus surpassing state-of-the-art OER catalysts date. A parallel catalytic mechanism has been disclosed be responsible optimization pathway, realizing homogenization multi-intermediate adsorption extremely elevated performance densities. These findings could guidance developing industrial-grade high-performance electrocatalysts splitting.

Dynamic potential–pH diagrams application to electrocatalysts for water oxidation†

The construction and use of ‘‘dynamic potential–pHdiagrams’’ (DPPDs), that are intended to extend the usefulness of thermodynamic Pourbaix diagrams to include kinetic considerations is described. As an example, DPPDs are presented for the comparison of electrocatalysts for water oxidation, i.e., the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), an important electrochemical reaction because of its key role i...

Novel Fully Organic Water Oxidation Electrocatalysts: A Quest for Simplicity

Despite the growing need for readily available and inexpensive catalysts for the half-reactions involved in water splitting, water oxidation and reduction electrocatalysts are still traditionally based on noble metals. One long-standing challenge has been the development of an oxygen evolution reaction catalyzed by easily available, structurally simple, and purely organic compounds. Herein, we ...

Nickel based electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution in high current density, alkaline water electrolysers.

A number of nickel based materials are investigated as potential oxygen evolution catalysts under conditions close to those met in modern, high current density alkaline water electrolysers. Microelectrodes are used to avoid distortion of voltammetric data by IR drop even at the high current densities employed in such water electrolysers. High surface area nickel metal oxides prepared by cathodi...

Stable Solar-Driven Water Oxidation to O2(g) By Multifunctional Electrocatalysts Coated Small Band Gap Semiconductors

Technologically important small band gap (<2 eV) semiconductors must be stabilized against corrosion or passivation in aqueous electrolytes before they can be used as photoelectrodes that directly produce fuels from sunlight. In addition, incorporation of electrocatalysts on the surface of the photoelectrodes is required for efficient oxidation of H2O to O2(g) and reduction of H2O or H2O and CO...
